Past perfect tense என்பது கடந்த காலத்தில் இரண்டு அல்லது அதற்க்கு அதிகமான விசயம் நடந்து இருக்கும் அதில் எந்த விசயம் முதலில் நடந்தது அந்த கடந்த காலத்தில் என்று கூறுவதற்கு இந்தPast perfect tense பயன்படுகிறது.

➤ When I came, the movie had started.➢ நான் வந்தபோது, படம் ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டது.
Past perfect tense என்பது கடந்தக்காலத்தில் நடந்து முடிந்த விசயங்களைக் கூறுவது ஆகும்.
இந்த past perfect tense கடந்த காலத்தில் தொடங்கிய செயல் அடுத்து இன்னொரு கடந்த காலத்தில் முடிந்து இருக்கும்.
மிகவும் எளிமையாக சொல்லனும் என்றால் தற்போது நடக்கும் நிகழ் காலத்தில் இருந்து முன் இரண்டு கடந்த காலங்களைப் பற்றி பேசுவது ஆகும்.
